new TLDs have been approved by ICANN ?
On
November 16th, 2000, at the meeting held at Marina del Rey, California, the leadership
of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, (ICANN), approved
seven new Top Level Domains: aero - for airlines biz
- for companies coop - for co-operatives info - for the
press museum - for museums and art galleries name - for
people pro - for professionals

When
will the "eu" domain be launched ?
The "European" Internet
address, the one with the "eu" suffix, will be launched at the very beginning
of next year, as announced by the EU Commissioner for Enterprise Erkki Liikanen
in Luxembourg, at the end of a TLCs' European Meeting. "Even if it does not come
out just at the same time as the euro", heralded the Commissioner, "this European
digital address will arrive "very soon", in 2002'. For more information, visit

LThe
European committee charged with drawing up .eu domain registration rules has proposed
the following type of registrants: - all companies with a registered
office or head office in the EU.
- all organizations with a registered office
or head office in the EU.
- all individuals residing in the EU.
Can
.eu domains be pre-registered ?
The
European steering committee (cfr. www.ec-pop.org has stated its official opposition
to such moves, adding that such activity would reflect negatively on the extension's
credibility.
